Why are conservatives so desperate to tag Abulhakim Muhammad a “leftist” when he’s not? We’ll discuss this on tonight’s podcast, 8-9 PM mt.

Our guest this Saturday, June 27 on Shared Sacrifice Weekend is Specialist Victor Agosto of the U.S. Army, who is refusing orders to deploy to Afghanistan. Agosto returned from a 13-month deployment to Iraq in November 2007, was based at Fort Hood, and was stop-lossed and ordered to go to Afghanistan. He refused, stating “The occupation is immoral and unjust. It does not make the American people any safer. It has the opposite effect.” If Agosto continues to refuse orders, he almost assuredly will face court martial, and likely jail time.

Tonight on the podcast: Far-right death threats against Obama, the ‘guvm’nt,’ and minorities are now a matter of routine all around the public sphere. It has become acceptable for rightists to threaten people with guns. Is this a sign that the left is winning? Or that everyone is losing? Plus: Scientific illiteracy in the U.S.

One of the few trained social futurists in North America, she has blogged on authoritarian and extremist movements at Orcinus since 2006, and is a founding member of Group News Blog. She is the author of numerous articles for Alternet and other publications, including “5 Ways to Build a Fascist-Proof America,” and “Is the U.S. on the Brink of Fascism?” Call-in number is 347-327-9615.
